What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy offers a cutting edge treatment for tendon, muscle, and bone disorders. It is an FDA-approved, non-invasive procedure that uses a stream of pulsed sound waves to break up old scar tissue and promote blood flow back to the affected area.

It is one of the most advanced and highly effective noninvasive treatment methods cleared by the FDA.

Shockwaves are audible high-energy sound waves. They have been employed in the medical world since around 1980, initially used to disintegrate kidney stones, for instance. With our modern pain therapy, the shock wave generator conducts energy to the painful body regions, where healing capacities then take place.

How Do Shockwaves Work?

The healing process is accelerated by activating the body’s self-healing powers. The shock waves stimulate new vessel blood formation or “neovascularization” to the damaged area leading to blood circulation and metabolism, where damaged tissue will gradually regenerate and eventually heal.

This is a non-invasive, highly effective treatment option. There are shown to be 90% success rates along with no scarring, no risk of infection. The patient will have no downtime from doing what they love.

Shockwave technology can be utilized for a wide range of conditions including achilles pain, frozen shoulder, shin splits, overuse injuries, and many more.

How Is The Treatment Performed?

The region in pain is localized, diagnosed by a highly trained sports practitioner and treatment plan discussed with the patient. The Shockwave Applicator is then placed on the area of dysfunction and treatment is applied, generating shock waves. The applicator is moved over the region of dysfunction for the duration of the treatment protocol. Shock waves are converted into sound energy once the kinetic energy hits the body’s immovable tissues. Each session takes between 5 and 15 minutes depending on the disorder being treated. By undergoing an appropriate treatment schedule, most ailments, even chronic problem, can be resolved within weeks!
